Happy belated 50th National Theatre!

As someone who has only ever been in the National a handful of times, I was not expecting to feel such a strong connection to the 50th Birthday celebrations, produced and performed as a live broadcast back in November on the BBC. However, the beautiful display unfolding in front of me on iPlayer on my 15″ MacBook screen reminded me in the opening scenes just why I once loved being on the stage under the bright lights and why I now can’t think of any other industry I want to be a part of.

With a brilliant cast combined of the likes of Dame Maggie Smith, James Corden, Judi Dench and many others, National Theatre showed audience members from all over the world, their expansive and beautiful back catalog with clips from the archives mixed with live performances recreating classic scenes and moments.

Highlighting the strengths and beauty of theatre and how it has evolved over half a century, it really was an incredible showcase of great theatre and talent. Not just reflecting and reinterpreting the past success of the organisation but also looking to the changes in the arts and casting a fine shadow for the future to fulfil.

Here’s to the next 50 years of the National Theatre!
